The Tuning Effect

The Tuning Effect is an evocative dance created by a group of highly skilled improvisers. Together they weave their different art forms into a dynamic performance expressing both athleticism and sensitivity.

André Gribou is a versatile musician whose piano score varies from improvisational antics to Bach, Beethoven and Rachmaninoff. The music is the script, providing a shifting, challenging emotional landscape.The rich and thoughtful lighting of Jeff Bartlett adds cohesion, discord and atmosphere.

Chris Aiken and Peter Bingham perform a dance celebrating their mutual interest in the poetic expressiveness of the body and its capacity to genuinely move audiences.The Tuning Effect premiered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in March 2001. Most recently this ensemble received a warm response from both audiences and reviewers for its performances at the New York Improvisation Festival.

Chris Aiken is winner of numerous scholarships, grants and awards in dance including the prestigious Guggenheim. He currently teaches at Ursinas College in Pennsylvania.

André Gribou is a graduate of Julliard and teaches at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He has received numerous grants in the United States and has performed and written music for many national and international productions.

Jeff Bartlett is the Artistic Director of the Southern Theatre, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is on the faculty of the University of Minnesota.
